Children Piano/Keyboard Lessons

Lessons for children from 6 years old, tweens and teens are more structured and a partnership exists between parent(s)/caregivers, students and teacher where a plan is tailored to suit the needs of parent(s)/caregivers and students.  Examples include traditional lesson stuctures of piano music and theory. This may include some music your child likes with parental approval. Some students may like to include some Christian music  as an option and/or modern music.. Parents can also make their suggestions as well.

Lessons for tweens and teens - as above with a little more flexibility allowed for teens with parental approval sought.

Students are not pressured to sit international exam but this remains an option at teacher's discretion. NCEA music tutoring support also is available where this fits the schools requirements.

About Me and Other Services

Welcome to your musical journey. Patricia is happy to guide you on this exciting pathway.

Patricia has a real passion for music and has shared this adventure with students, colleagues, associates and family for a few decades.  She has a 'young at heart' manner and especially enjoys teaching, performing, accompanying, organising concerts and playing solo for a variety of musical tastes and venues.  Patricia is convinced that learning and playing music is an 'ageless' and 'inclusive' activity and needs to be open and accessible for all to partake in.  Early and pre-school music can be undertaken with other providers. Patricia can provide tuition from 6 year olds to 96 year olds. in a relaxed environment at your own pace.

She has played for many church services including weddings and funerals in either church or secular settings in both the North and South Islands.  Patricia has been an accompanist for school assemblies, opera singers, enthusiastic singers, choirs and instrumentalist(s).  The choirs include Timaru Choral Society(1980s), Wellington Male Voice Choir(1990's) and The Palmerston North Choral Society(2000).  She has organised numerous student concerts, concerts with colleagues and associates and many fund-raising concerts for community endeavours as well as performing.

Her highlights include passing Grade 8 piano, Trinity College of Music with 100% - top of the world in 1969, with an invitation by scholarship to attend Trinity College of Music(now Guildhall School of Music) in London. She also appeared on DNTV2 for this special recognition. Her teacher at the time was Mrs Ruby de Jong from Milton.  Patricia also gained LTCL(performers piano) in 1971 and registered with the music teachers of New Zealand in 1972..  She also had the privilege of being taught by Professor Maurice Till, Michael Houstoun's teacher.

Patricia's other achievements are Bachelor of Music(majoring in History and Literature of Music) from Victoria University, Bachelor of Theology(majoring in Pastoral Studies) from Otago University and Graduate Diploma of Teaching(Music and ESOL) from Massey University Teacher's College, Palmerston North. Apart from private music teaching for many years in Dunedin, Timaru, Wellington and Palmerston North., she enjoyed classroom teaching at Longburn Adventist College(ESOL) Palmerston North and classroom relieving at a few Manawatu secondary schools.  Patricia appreciated piano teaching one-to-one at Craighead Diocesan School during the 1980s.
